UC Berkeley bookstore closes for new owner
The University of California bookstore in Berkeley, California, has closed its doors.
The bookstore has closed after an eight-year run that has seen it become one of the most successful and well-respected online retail stores in the country.
The closure was announced Wednesday evening by the Berkeley-based bookstore, which has sold nearly 200 million books since its establishment in the 1960s.
According to a press release, the company has closed due to “continuing financial issues.”
The news comes just weeks after a major company, Amazon, announced plans to build a store in Berkeley.
